About the OpportunityThe Information Technology organization at FirstEnergy creates and maintains software solutions, and operates FirstEnergy data centers, service desks and voice/data networks.As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time opportunities spanning 14 weeks. FirstEnergy offers paid internships to qualified students actively enrolled in an accredited university or college.IT Systems Analyst Intern The IT Systems Analyst is critical for the successful use of the technology and software systems used by FirstEnergy. The analyst in this role must configure, fully utilize, and secure applications. They must also understand associated application interfaces and provide operational support to keep the system up and running.An IT Systems Analyst has a passion for technology and enjoys the challenge of determining how systems work and troubleshooting issues. The IT Systems Analyst also learns the complex business processes of the systems they support. They have great communication skills allowing collaboration between IT and the business unit utilizing the application.Examples of possible job duties and responsibilities of an IT Systems Analyst:

  • Supporting the application architecture
    • Troubleshoot applications, systems, and devices for issue resolution and root-cause analysis
      • Supporting and improving business processes
        • Create and maintain system documentation and procedures to ensure governance and standards
        • Analyze requirements, documentation, use cases and workflow
        • Consult with business partners to refine requirements and explain tradeoffs between usability and performance
        • Develop solutions to support or enhance production processes and operations
        • Participate in application regression testing
        • Assist in defect resolution during testing of applications
        • Manage the IT change management process for new solution implementation, adhering to compliance guidelines
          • Provide insight into application data
            • Develop data queries and reporting solutions to meet customer requirements
            • Understand the structure and design of the application's database
            • Provide data analysis based on business unit needsApplicant Requirements:
              • Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or other technology related disciplines
              • Class Standing - Graduation between Fall 2024 and Spring 2027
              • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
              • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)Preferred Skills/Experience
                • Basic understanding of, or experience with, any kind of coding or scripting language (e.g. Perl, Python, Java, C, PowerShell, SQL etc.)
                  • reading and revising data through software applications
                  • Basic understanding of, or experience with, reporting and dashboarding solutions, particularly Power BI
                  • Experience supporting software solutions
                  • Experience troubleshooting personal devices, such as laptops or tablets
                  • Familiarity with server administration and support
                  • High Level understanding of Windows Server, Windows PC, and UNIX/Linux operating systems and administration fundamentalsIdeal Candidate:
                    • Highly motivated to work independently, utilizing virtual technologies, and learn quickly
                    • Must be organized and work well with priority changes
                    • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects
                    • Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively participate on a team and in remote meetings and conference callsYour Resume Must Include:
