About the OpportunityAs a participant in the Co-op/Intern
Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating
professional skills and performing professional level work at
FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and
challenging assignments to refine skills and round out
competencies. Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time
opportunities spanning 14 weeks. FirstEnergy offers paid
internships to qualified students actively enrolled in accredited
university or college.Integration breaks down silos between
discrete systems and business units. It allows the business to seek
best-in-class solutions for their needs while still functioning as
a wholistic enterprise. As an IT Integration Developer intern at
FirstEnergy, you will have hands-on experience with the technology
used to support our business units at FirstEnergy. You will be
given challenging assignments that will have a direct impact on the
team's and business' success.Responsibilities of an Integration
Analyst / DeveloperThe tools, databases and technologies supported
by Software Development interns vary across teams. The following
are some of possible technologies and roles an intern could have as
an Integration Developer at FirstEnergy:
- Working with the following technologies: webMethods Integration
Server, databases (SQL Server, Oracle), Rest and Soap services,
sftp file transfers, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
- Working on a team that develops and supports custom integration
solutions across the enterprise
- Learning our ITIL change management process
- Creating solutions with the complete software development cycle
(development, test, deploy, support)
- Collaborating with other development and security teamsAll IT
programming and development interns will have the opportunity to:
- Work closely with IT developers, IT business analysts, and
FirstEnergy business employees to deliver IT solutions that help
achieve business goals
- Receive training in the skill sets needed to meet
individualized objectives and development needsApplicant
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor's degree program
at an accredited university/college with a major in Computer
Science, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Information
Science or related major
- Class Standing - Graduating between Fall 2025 and Spring
2027
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in
the future)Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Basic computer programming skills, as well as completed
coursework in one or more robust coding languages (i.e., Java C#,
JavaScript, TypeScript)
- Basic database SQL skills (select, update, insert, delete)
- Interest and aptitude in software development
- Declaration of a software development-related track within one
of the academic programs listed above highly preferred
- Familiarity with the use of common code and re-usability
concepts
- Knowledge of webservice technologies such as Rest and Soap
services
- Basic understanding of the software development life cycle from
requirements gathering to implementation
- Ability to write custom scriptsIdeal Candidate:

- Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar

- Sound understanding of Microsoft Office line of products,
especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
