$5000 Sign on Bonus! BASIC PURPOSE: The Acute Registered Nurse (RN), provides direct care to the patient and is responsible for the coordination of patient care activities. He/she works collaboratively with the hospital staff to coordinate the care of the patients. The RN acts as the direct caregiver for an individual hospital or region as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Applies the nursing process consistently based on established standards relative to delivery of patient care. Assesses the patient's clinical condition accurately while planning appropriate nursing actions to meet the needs of the patient. Performs daily rounds and is proactive by reviewing all patients scheduled for daily hemodialysis. Assesses the patient clinical status at bedside prior to the treatment. Reviews the physician's orders, present weight, and laboratory values and discusses with the charge nurse as appropriate. Assists as necessary to expedite the patient treatment. Consults with the nephrologist directly if indicated for clarification of any issues. Performs treatments based on physician orders, CMS standards, and established company/hospital standards of care. Consistently administers quality patient care using current theory and nursing practices principles. All care is age specific to meet the needs of the adult to geriatric patient. Administers medications as prescribed. Reports pertinent patient observations and reactions/outcomes to appropriate personnel (i.e. primary nurse, physician) in a timely manner. Consistently assists team members in the delivery of acute hemodialysis and apheresis procedures utilizing established standards of care. Serves as a clinical role model and resource person. May act as the charge nurse for an individual hospital or region as needed. As the acting charge nurse, ensures that the staff nurses and technicians implement all policies and procedures specific to the individual client hospital. Assures compliance with safety policies and procedures in the dialysis setting. Ensures equipment is maintained to reduce the likelihood of equipment failure, thereby reducing equipment downtime and loss of productivity. Consistently participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Participates in both formal and informal staff development activities both within the hospital setting and the corporate setting. Observes standard dialysis precautions and other infection control practices. Maintains CPR certification. Collaborates with the charge nurse or nurse manager to promote and provide coordination of cost effective patient care. In the absence of the charge nurse, the senior registered nurse on duty will be assigned the responsibility of coordinating staff assignments, patient flow, and covering call in his/her designated region. Performs other functions or duties as assigned. Assures dependability by consistently being at work on time when scheduled. Adheres to CDC policies on time and attendance, flexibility and being willing to adjust time and schedule to meet the patient care needs. KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and application of physical assessment of the dialysis patient. Recognizes the importance of a safe and effective environment in which to provide care for the dialysis patient. Demonstrates expertise in current knowledge of physical and psychosocial assessment and the technical skills to provide appropriate care to the patient. Demonstrates an understanding of dialysis equipment and competency to perform the dialysis procedure. Demonstrates understanding of and follows the hospital and CDC's policies and procedures. Recognizes possible complications in the hemodialysis procedure and initiates appropriate interventions. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to identify patient and family educational needs. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Interacts with others to provide a pleasant working environment that promotes positive working relationships. Acts as a resource person for problem-solving. Delegates responsibility appropriate to co-workers scope of practice as necessary. Communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals as necessary to provide safe and effective patient care. Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional behavior to patients, co-workers, and other healthcare workers. Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure and to prioritize appropriately. Responds appropriately to questions and concerns from the patient, patient's family and/or significant other within patient legal considerations. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE TRAINING AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Demonstrates competency in clinical nursing. Certification in Nephrology Nursing desired and encouraged. Prefer one year experience of dialysis experience or one year of Critical Care experience. Two years of experience in Medical/Surgical nursing preferred.
