Registered Nurse or LPC Summit Psychological Associates is
accepting applications for a full-time Mental Health Registered
Nurse to join our team at the Summit County Jail to work in the
Behavioral Health Unit. Our team of clinicians work with jail
inmates to assist them in managing mental health and substance use
concerns while incarcerated. The nurse provides daytime support to
the psychiatrists who provide medication management at the county
jail. The position requires one evening until 8pm although all
other work time is during the day. The nurse works out of the
Summit County Jail in the mental health unit. The following are
tasks completed by the mental health nurse: Individual crisis
intervention in conjunction with other staff Completing reviews of
collateral information received for psychotropic medications and
mental health treatment or diagnosis and effectively communicate
this to the psychiatrist Update psychiatrist on any med changes,
complaints of side effects, changes in mental status as observed or
had reported to this RN, to assist with treatment planning Prepare
and administer emergency injections as ordered by the psychiatrist
Work in conjunction with behavioral health staff to monitor issues
with medications to report to the psychiatrist Provide psychotropic
medication education, provide explanations of Mental Health Court,
lab work needed to inmates and other staff Complete and provide
client with a discharge summary for community follow up treatment
or medications after release from SCJ Document verbal medication
orders given by psychiatrist and input into the EMR MAR reviews and
communication of concerns to the psychiatrist Maintaining and
management of client records regarding psychiatrist visits and
medication orders Complete nursing assessments, provide nurse to
nurse reports and assist with the coordination for clients going to
Northcoast Behavioral Health or Twin Valley Maintains
confidentiality Provide interventions to clients as requested
through a kite sent by the client to address medication questions
or concerns or by referral from any other jail staff Assist with
training/education of other jail staff regarding mental health and
medication issues as needed Participating in SPA staff
functions/meetings as applies to this position Contribute to the
multidisciplinary learning of Residents, Fellows or other students
Working with co-workers as a team in a professional manner Provide
consultation to medical, mental health and other jail staff as
needed Maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with agency
documentation standards Responsible for being knowledgeable about
the law regulating practice in Ohio including knowledge Maintaining
a professional positive rapport with staff of Summit County Jail
Other duties as assigned by supervisor Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities: Highly developed verbal and written communication Skills
in clinical interviewing Maintains an understanding of the rights
of individuals served and the procedures governing them Knowledge
of psychotropic medications Education and Experience: Minimum of
three years working with individuals with serious or persistent
mental illness Prior experience working in a correctional facility
is preferred Graduate of an approved school of Registered Nursing
Current licensure as an RN in the State of Ohio LPN is considered
if has certification for injection administration Credentialed
through the Credentialing Committee to perform the duties
associated with this position Complete on-going training and
fulfill CEU requirements as well as Summit County Jail yearly
training requirements of the Nurse Practice Act and the Nursing
Code of Ethics Adherence to all federal, state and SPA standards
and policies/procedures All clinicians must complete a background
check after hired.
