plans, organizes, manages and evaluates patient care operations for
a designated area(s) on a 24-hour basis; plans and develops
strategic short, mid- and long-term goals and processes to enhance
and improve the operations of the unit to support Summa Health’s
mission, vision and values; evaluates and identifies achievements
and problems in meeting goals; manages, guides, coaches, and
evaluates the work performance of patient care staff in a
designated area; promotes and ensures ongoing collaboration with
other patient care departments and areas that relate directly or
indirectly to patient care operations and services; develops,
administers and manages unit budget plans; identifies, plans and
initiates cost saving initiatives; participates in development of
evidence-based standards of practice; identifies opportunities for
improvement in patient care and organizational processes; assumes
leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to
problematic outcomes. Leads a team of professional healthcare
providers cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual
respect; creates and facilitates an environment that supports the
nursing professional practice model; functions as a key member of
the health care team that provides patient care and supportive
services in an in-patient setting directed towards achievement of
positive patient care outcomes, maximizing patient’s involvement in
his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing length
of hospitalization, and decreasing costs; ensures patients and
their families will experience the benefits of patient-focused care
through the integrated skills of all care team members. The span of
control for this position is based on unit capacity, unit
complexity, and FTE oversight; and based on current evidence that
supports patient satisfaction, quality, and safety as well as staff
engagement and resilience. Formal Education Required: a. Bachelor’s
of Science in Nursing (BSN) -Applicants are required to obtain a
Masters degree within three (3) years of employment b. Graduate of
a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation
Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) c. Current license to
practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio d. Current
certification preferred in nursing administration or area of
clinical expertise is preferred and is required to obtain within
two (2) years. e. Formal education in evidence-based practice and
process improvement is highly desired and willing to obtain within
five (5) years. Experience & Training Required: a.Three (3) years
minimum of clinical and management experience in relevant care
setting; Five (5) years preferred. Other Skills, Competencies, and
Qualifications: a. Effective performance of this role at Summa
Health System requires that the Nurse Manager demonstrate core
competencies in the area of customer focus, teamwork, job
knowledge, and resource management. Job knowledge is demonstrated
in the performance of primary duties and responsibilities while the
remaining AONL leadership competencies address the manner in which
the role is performed. b. Provides quality service to customers,
including patients, families, other staff and the community. c.

departmental goals d. Makes effective use of available resources,
including time, people, materials, and financial resources e.
Supports the nursing professional practice model. Practices within
the organizational policies and procedures, and Department of
Nursing Standards of Practice. Maintains standards that promote
patient safety. f. Ability to provide necessary care to patients
utilizing an evidence-based and process improvement methodology
that is grounded in nursing theory. g. Ability to effectively
interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their
needs for self-respect and dignity. h. Retains professional
certification in nursing administration or clinical area. i. Meet
mandatory educational and health requirements. j. Maintains and
seeks new knowledge related to patient care issues, quality
improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and
protocols. k. Demonstrates computer skills required to perform job
functions Level of Physical Demands: a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten
pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force

- $82.14/hr The salary range on this job posting/advertising is
base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many
factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical
location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
