    The Director of Social Services leads and directs the operations of the Social Work and Help Me Grow teams across all geographies at Akron Children s Hospital Leadership.
  • Critically analyzes and creates vision for department after review of evidence and implements changes to achieve goals based on analysis
  • Maintains drive and commitment to explore new knowledge and ideas
  • Promotes system thinking and strategic planning in department and service line
  • Synthesizes and integrates divergent viewpoints for the good of patient care, department, and organization
  • Develops mentoring action plan to coach development of leaders
  • Supports and provides direction to managers and staff on an ongoing basis and especially during difficult transitions
  • Role models social work values and the perspective that patient care is the core of the organization s work
  • Contributes social work perspective and expertise when collaborating with others to achieve the Hospital s missionDuties and Responsibilities
    • Adds value as a key member of management; understands the business, financials, industry, customers and strategy
    • Supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains and develops, and manages performance to company goals and expectations
    • Prepares, manages, and adheres to department budget to maintain expenditure controls
    • Directs daily activities of the Hospital s Social Work and Help Me Grow teams across all geographies
    • Oversees clinical social work practices, quality improvement, and staff recruitment, development and evaluation
    • Leads professional social work collaboration within the hospital and the regional service area
    • Manages fiscal responsibilities including budgets, contracts, Federal and State grants, and capital expenditures
    • Plans, develops, implements, and monitors department and hospital policies, goals, and objectives
    • Prepares grant submissions and required grant reports
    • Maintains coverage for all staffing areas
    • Other duties as requiredEducation and Experience
      • Education: Master s degree in Social Work is required from an accredited school of social work
      • Certification: Current State of Ohio Licensed Independent Social Worker-Supervisor is required
      • Years of relevant experience: 5 to 7 years is preferred
      • Years of experience supervising: 3 to 5 years is requiredTechnical Expertise
        • Experience working with pediatric patients and their families is required
        • Experience resolving complicated organizational and clinical issues is required
        • Experience documenting, reading, and interpreting electronic spreadsheets, medical records, and administrative reports is required
        • Experience working with all levels within an organization is required
        • Experience in healthcare is required
        • Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word or similar software is required.
        • Experience with Kronos timekeeping, EPIC, Strata Jazz software, computerized expense system, and federal grant portals is required/preferred.
          Working Conditions
          • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, walk, stand, sit, bend, reach with hands and arms, climb, push/pull, use hands, and see, hear and speak.
          • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
          • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
          • This position is performed in an office setting, five days a week with typical work hours being 8.00a through 5.00p.
