Job Description

Who You Are:

The Claims Director leads the operations of the claims department to meet and exceed operational, financial, and service requirements. The position establishes policies and procedures for worker's comp claims administration and is responsible for overseeing the efficient and accurate processing and payment of claims. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legislation and regulations and participates in industry events that pertain to worker's compensation, claims, or related and beneficial matters.

Additionally, the Claims Director will provide expert guidance and consultation to staff on the most complex claims. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives to support the functional infrastructure and looks ahead to enact changes when needed to ensure the company best utilizes technology, talent, and resources.

What You'll Do:

  • Facilitate, enhance, and implement onboarding and training of all Claims Department team leads and supervisors and will oversee all department functions.
  • Responsible for directing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures that assure accurate, timely claims and encounter processing and provider inquiries (written or verbal).
  • The compilation and enhancement of information and documents required for claims processing and related inquiries to assure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and external and internal policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate the planning and implantation of the proper department infrastructure for current success and future company footprint.
  • Evaluate department results daily and determine plans of action to be evaluated and implemented for current success and future jurisdictions.
  • Regularly audit past open fully insured claims and provide feedback to the team leads on handling/oversight recommendations.
  • Identify business and legal trends, as well as develop and execute strategic plans to address trends; research state statutes to determine growth opportunities.
  • Manage claims-related vendors, set expectations, evaluate results, and monitor expenses.
  • Preparation and timely submission of management and regulatory reports.
  • Implementing initiatives to improve efficiencies, customer service, and cost management; assisting in maintaining a positive customer service environment and working collaboratively to assess work product; adjusting claim practices as appropriate to anticipate, respond to, and manage trends.
  • Ensure the department is proactively prepared for all aspects of state expansion, ensuring department staffing with expertise and experience in-line with the company's strategic initiatives.
  • Focus on staff development to ensure succession planning and talent retention, identifying and promoting opportunities for exposure and experience.


    What You'll Need:
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required
    • 10+ years of claims management experience, with a minimum of 5 years in Workers' Comp, including demonstrated success in building out the proper infrastructure to support department and company growth
    • Insurance designation preferred, but not required
    • Well-developed outside attorney management/oversight skills involving large, complex claims in a range of jurisdictions
    • Exceptional knowledge of workers comp's investigative techniques and legal precedents.
    • Minimum of three days working onsite in Sharon, PA
